Surf's up As the sun sets on another postcard-perfect day at North Carolina's Outer Banks, a group of teenage boys emerge from the breaking waves of the Atlantic Ocean. After an intense day of surfing and boogie boarding, the crew leaves the beach for a night of worship and Bible study.
WAVE Surf Camp, with its mix of recreational sport and devotions and worship, might not be a teenage boy's typical week at the beach. But that's quite alright with founder and director Doug Karl '81.
Changeable plans Tim Defoggi '03 has halted making major plans for his life - at least for the foreseeable future. He came to this conclusion from past experience.
"I've learned that every goal in life I've had, God has enjoyed changing around. So I've kind of stopped because I know plans change and I'm not the one in control," says Tim with a laugh.
Urban doc Dana (Dishon) Vallangeon '92 felt her medical missionary calling at the age of 16. Entering Olivet Nazarene University to focus on premed left her with a continual nagging feeling that this calling was an overwhelming, surprising one.
In the midst of the end of her undergraduate career and waiting to hear back from medical schools, Dana found herself in a perspective-altering conversation with God.
Casey (Martin) Yowell '03 Every day, Cassie Yowell is able to use her passion for event planning and love of people to make a lasting impact on the future health of children.

Inspired by the heroism and sacrifice of his brother, Wayne Michael Hayes '65, Chuck Hayes, pastor at Richland Center Church of the Nazarene, has partnered with Olivet to compile names for a campus alumni war memorial.
"I was struck by the idea that my brother wasn't the only former student who died in combat. It seems right that there should be something there to show they passed this way," says Hayes.
Olivet requests verifiable names of alumni who served in the United States armed forces and died in combat. Please send any information in regards to this request to alumni@olivet.edu.
