Box Score
Poppy Miller (New Haven, Ind.) grabbed the first rebound of the game and the last for the Tigers, and the 18 in between helped lead the Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball team past Robert Morris College on Saturday afternoon. She finished the game with a total of 20 boards (a third of the team's total) and chipped in 25 points to register a double-double in capturing an important conference victory.
Miller's outstanding play stayed consistent throughout the game as the Eagles remained close, never being behind by more than nine points, with the score favoring the Tigers 11-2 at the 15:55 mark.
RMC would fight their way back, tying the score at 19-19 with a free throw by Ashley Williams at the 7:36 mark, but they would never gain the lead.
Olivet would take a slim 36-32 margain into the locker rooms at the half, converting on 14 jumpers and five 3-point attempts.
The second half told the same story, as the Tigers would never relinquish the lead. Robert Morris would get within one point on a jumper by Shante Clark to put the score at 45-44. But a clutch 3-pointer by Jade Stanlick (Edwardsville, Ill.) with time running off the shot clock would start the Tigers on a 15-6 scoring run to put the game out of reach.
Olivet never looked back from that point forward, as solid defense and a 13-for-16 effort from the free-throw line allowed ONU to hang on.
“Poppy (Miller) had a great game,” Olivet coach Doug Porter said. “The game was tight throughout, but her performance on the boards gave us some second-chance scoring opportunities that we were able to capitalize on.”
Brooke Peterson (Arlington Heights, Ill.) also put up great numbers in the form of a double-double, registering 11 points and 10 rebounds. Stanlick keeps racking up the assists with nine, putting her season total at 163.
The Tigers look to take action again Tuesday evening versus conference rival Saint Xavier University. The Cougars are currently 21-4, 7-1 in CCAC play, and are ranked eighth in the country. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at McHie Arena.
