HAMMOND, Ind. - A 55-46 halftime lead carried the Olivet Nazarene University women’s basketball team to a 97-74 victory over Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) in Hammond, Ind., Saturday.
The Tigers picked up 33 of their 55 points from the 3-point line, as they shot 42.2 percent (19-for-45) from the field and 35.5 percent (11-for-31) from the 3-point line in the first half.
ONU also outscored PUC 42-28 in the second half.
The Tigers finished the afternoon shooting 40.7 percent (35-for-86) from the field and 32.7 percent (16-for-49) from the 3-point line. The Tigers connected on 73.3 percent (11-for-15) from the charity stripe.
Five Tigers reached double figures, led by Holly Wiersema’s (Rockford, Ill.) 27 points. Brooke Peterson (Arlington Heights, Ill.) scored 19 points, while Poppy Miller (New Haven, Ind.) and Lexie Heinold (Washington, Ill.) both put up 12. Jade Stanlick (Edwardsville, Ill.) also chipped in 11.
Miller also put up another double-double on the afternoon, her second in two games, grabbing a team-high 14 rebounds. The Tigers ended the game with 43 boards.
The victory for the Tigers was their second in a row, as they improved to 15-10 on the season.
The Tigers return to action Tuesday, Feb. 17, vs. Illinois Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. in McHie Arena.
