CHICAGO, Ill. - The Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball team was all over the floor in tonight's 82-60 victory over conference foe Illinois Institute of Technology. The win puts the Tigers at 14-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Poppy Miller (New Haven, Ind.) got things going early for the Tigers, sinking a jumper just 30 seconds into the start of the game. ONU wouldn't stop there as their new half court offense would soon lead them to a 27-2 lead. IIT would fight their way back to put them 24 points behind the Tigers going into the locker room. The score at the half was 45-23.
ONU wouldn't let up in the second half, as they buried the Scarlet Hawks in most categories on the evening. ONU would finish the game totaling 45 boards, with 15 of them being credited to Miller. Miller would also put up 21 points on the night, leaving the court with a double-double. Brooke Peterson (Arlington Heights, Ill.) registered 8 boards with 21 points, while teammate Holly Wiersema (Rockford, Ill.) put up 12 points in the scoring column. Jade Stanlick (Edwardsville, Ill.) added to her team leading assist total of 129 with 8 in the game.
The Tigers look to carry the win to their next compeition which is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m in Hammond, Ind. ONU looks to take on the Peregrines of Purdue University-Calumet.
