BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The #1 seeded Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team defeated #5 seeded Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in the first match of the CCAC conference tournament this afternoon with final scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-17. With the win, the Tigers move to 1-0, while the Trolls fall to 0-1 in the pool play tournament format that was instituted for this year.

With injuries looming for the Tiger squad, freshman Carolyn Goettsch (Utica, Mich.) stepped up to make an impact in ONU's first postseason victory of the year. Goettsch was able to post a .615 attack percentage with 9 kills with only one error. Sophomore Danielle Vander Schaaf (Baraboo, Wis.) also made per prescence felt as a recent injury to sophomore middle blocker Molly Goldbach (Redondo Beach, Calif.) gave her an opportunity to stack more playing time. Vander Schaaf totaled 7 kills in the match for a .333 attack percentage. Junior Sara Byrne (Downers Grove, Ill.) stayed consistent for the Tigers, tallying 14 kills and 3 block assists throughout the duration fo the match. Senior setter Erin Sikora (Elgin, Ill.) registered 35 assists and 9 digs as well for ONU.

Although Trinity Christian's team attack percentage didn't show it, two Trolls put together respectable worksheets for their squad. Junior Sara Ooms (Lansing, Ill.) had 13 total kills (.355 percentage), while freshman Betsy Holman (Streamwood, Ill.) had 6 kills (.400 percentage) and 2 block assists.

Defensively, the Tigers out-dug the Trolls 64 to 56, with sophomore libero DeeAnn Garvin (Bloomington, Ind.) tallying 18 of those digs for ONU.

In the next match of the afternoon, #4 Saint Xavier University (Ill.) is taking on #8 Judson Univeristy (Ill.). The Cougars currently stand with an overall season record of 18-20, 6-4 while the Eagles come into today's tournament with a 7-24, 4-6 record. The match is set to being at 2:00 p.m.
