GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team made it a sweep today as they picked up two more wins to go undefeated in the Georgetown College Boneyard Brawl tournament. They were able to defeat Union University (Tenn.) in the morning match-up, and then bested Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) in the afternoon match-up.
Stephanie Smith (Bourbonnais, Ill.) again had a solid performance for the Tigers as she put up good numbers in the form of 10 kills (.429 attack percenatage) and 11 digs. Sara Byrne (Downers Grove, Ill.) had 12 kills (.407 attack percentage) of her own, while Erin Sikora (Elgin, Ill.) recorded 37 of her squad's 45 assists. Byrne and Molly Goldbach (Redondo Beach, Calif.) covered the net, tallying 3 block assists apiece, while DeeAnn Garvin (Bloomington, Ind.) had 13 total digs.
ONU again made it interesting in the second match versus Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) as it took all five games to defeat the Lady Lions. Terese Byrne (Downers Grove, Ill.) went on a tear, recording 23 kills (.595 attack percentage) while Smith registered her fourth straight double-double in the form of 14 kills and 17 digs. Sikora was also able to tally 52 assists in the contest.
Adding these two wins with yesterday's victories, the Tigers currently stand at 29-8 on the season. Their next contest is scheduled for this Tuesday, as the women look to take on the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in their last conference match-up of the regular season. ONU presently holds a 9-0 conference record thus far this season. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in McHie Arena.
