Volleyball starts tournament off with a bang

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team added two more victories to their win column this afternoon as they defeated Campbellsville University (Ky.) in three games, and Indiana Tech in five to open up the Boneyard Brawl volleyball tournament hosted by Georgetown College.
ONU started off strong with a three game sweep over Campbellsville. The Tigers were able to best their opponent in all categories including attack percentage and digs. Sara Byrne (Downers Grove, Ill.) led the ONU offense with a .310 attack percentage. She also tallied 11 kills and 2 block assists. Stephanie Smith (Bourbonnais, Ill.) had a nice match as well, registering a double double in kills (10) and digs (12).
In thier second match of the day, Olivet made it interesting by winning the first two games, but then waiting until the fifth game to put Indiana Tech away. Smith had a monster performance with 23 total kills and 12 digs. Terese Byrne (Downers Grove, Ill.) had 13 kills, while Molly Goldbach (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had 11 of her own. DeeAnn Garvin (Bloomington, Ind.) was the anchor for the Tigers defensively as she recorded 23 digs on the evening.
With the two wins, the Tigers improve their overall season record to 27-8. They look to compete again tomorrow in the conclusion of the tournament. The women are scheduled to take on Union University (Tenn.) at 9:00 a.m. and then Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) at 2:00 p.m.
