BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Olivet Nazarene University head softball coach Ritchie Richardson has announced the signing of Krystal Meyer (Momence, Ill./Momence H.S.) for the 2011 season.
Meyer, a 5-6 shortstop, will be a four-year letterwinner at Momence High School for head coach Matt Fox. A Saganon Valley all-conference and all-area selection, Meyer helped the Redskins to a 30-6 overall season record in 2009 as well as a second place finish in conference standings.
Meyer not only competes on the softball field, but she is also a four year varsity letterwinner in volleyball, basketball, and track. As successful an athlete as Krystal is, her talents reach beyond the playing fields and into the classroom. A member of the National Honor Society and in the top 10 percent of her graduating class, Meyer is also a member of the MHS Honor Guard, Spanish Club, and Student Council. The daughter of Alex and Pam, Krystal is planning to major in Athletic Training during her time at Olivet Nazarene University.
Meyer will be joining a program at Olivet Nazarene University that is considered one of the nation's finest collegiate softball programs, having won an average of 45 games per season over the last 14 campaigns. The Tigers have compiled seven CCAC Regular Season Titles, eight CCAC Tournament Championships, five NAIA Region VII Titles and five NAIA World Series appearances. The program has also finished in the NAIA's top 25 eight times during the span: 11th in 1997, 16th in 1998, seventh in 1999, 10th in 2000, 15th in 2002, ninth in 2003, 15th in 2004 and 10th in 2008. The Tigers also claimed five NCCAA National Championships in 1996, 1997, 2000, 2006 and 2008.
