BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Olivet Nazarene Univeristy women's soccer team snapped their 11 game winning streak this afternoon with a 1-0 loss to conference foe Trinity Christian College (Ill.). With the TCC win, the Trolls took top conference honors for the regular season with a CCAC best 9-0-1 record. The Tigers took second place with a CCAC record of 9-1.
The game was tight throughout, as the score remained tied at 0-0 by halftime. What started out as a cloudy day soon turned to rain as the second half whistle blew. Both teams were neck and neck with opportunites to score, but TCC prevailed with Alyssa Lee connecting on a breakaway down the right side line. Lee outran the defender and got a shot off to the bottom left corner, just out of the reach of ONU keeper Danielle Johnston's (Bloomingdale, Ill.) outstretched arms at the 77:42 mark.
ONU struggled defensively on the afternoon as they allowed Trinity Christain to outshoot them 21-11 with nine shots on goal, but Johnston had a magnificant game as she made a number of spectacular saves on the day to keep her team in contention. Olivet had some good scoring opportunities in the game, but could not connect on their crosses to put up a major threat.
With the loss, Olivet falls to 15-2-1 to conclude their regular season. The 2009 postseason is set to get underway this Saturday, Oct. 31, as the women are scheduled to take on the Saints from Illinois Institute of Technology in Bourbonnais, Ill. in the CCAC quarterfinal game. The game is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
