DIRECTIONS FOR TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM APPLICATION


REQUIREMENTS for Admittance into the Program

All of the following requirements must be met before acceptance into the Teacher Education Program:
  1. Print the application form and return to the Department of Education office.

  2. At least two of the three faculty recommendations must be returned (campus mail). (Forms are available in the Education office.)

  3. One character reference must be returned. (Forms are available in the Education office.)

  4. Classes that must be completed with C- or above:
    Early Childhood Majors
    EDUC 150/151 - Hist. and Phil. Foundations of Educ.
    EDUC 211 - Child Development
    EDUC 249 - Educ. and Dev. Psychology

    Elementary/Secondary/Music
    EDUC 150/151 - Hist. and Phil. Foundations of Educ.
    EDUC 214 - Early Adol. Dev. (Elem, Art, Phys Educ, Soc Sci, Spanish majors only)
    EDUC 249 - Educ. and Dev. Psychology

  5. Grade of C- or above in English I.

  6. Grade of C- or above in required mathematics courses:
       Early Childhood/Elementary - MATH 111 Math for Elem. Teachers I (or equivalent)
       Secondary/Music - MATH 103 Math for Liberal Arts (or equivalent)

  7. Successfully pass Illinois State Basic Skills test.

  8. Completion of 30 credit hours of coursework with cumulative GPA of 2.50.
    Once in the program, a grade point average of 2.75 must be maintained in the teaching field.

  9. Clearance of background check.

  10. TB test may be required.

  11. Meet portfolio requirements.

  12. Approval from the dean of students.

When these requirements have been met, the Director of Teacher Education will present your name to the Teacher Education Executive Committee for acceptance into the Teacher Education Program.

You will receive a letter of congratulations upon being accepted into the program.
