Dr. Bareiss has served as a full-time computer science professor at Olivet Nazarene University since 1987. She holds a B.A. degree from Indiana Wesleyan University at Marion, Ind. in mathematics and computing; a Master of Science in computer science from Purdue University at West Lafayette, Ind.; and a Ph.D. in computer science from Illinois Institute of Technology. At ONU, she has taught a wide variety of courses but especially enjoys database technologies, administration, and programming. Dr. Bareiss is a professional member of the Association for Computing (ACM) and Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC).
In addition to teaching and maintaining departmental servers, Dr. Bareiss has been very active in professional societies. She has been a part of the national board for CCSC since 1996, helped form and provided leadership for the CCSC:MW regional conference, and published papers and presented panel discussions and workshops at a number of regional, national, and international conferences. She has also been involved in other professional activities including grading CS AP exams, reviewing NSF grants, and assessing other CS programs. She has been appointed a faculty research fellow at the NASA Kennedy Space Center for two summers. She is currently leading an initiative to help resource and network faculty from small computing departments.
At Olivet, Dr. Bareiss has been privileged to be the faculty sponsor for the computer and equestrian clubs. While on sabbatical leave during the 2000-2001 academic year, Dr. Bareiss was a database development consultant to AT&T and has done part-time consulting as time permits since then.
