Professor Janice Hockensmith is an associate professor in the Department of Social Work in Olivet's School of Professional Studies. She is also the social work field education director.

Besides her work in field education, she teaches Crisis Intervention and Human Behavior and Social Environment.

Professor Hockensmith's academic interests include international social work, medial social work and studies in aging. The Illinois Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers has named her the East Central Illinois District Social Worker of the Year, and she has also received the Kankakee County Social Worker of the Year Award.

In addition, she was given the Amethyst Award by Harbor House in recognition of her dedication to ending domestic violence.

Her published works include an article titled "Innovative Exchange Creates Global Continuing Education" (2004, Fall) in Professional Development: The International Journal of Continuing Social Work Education.

In her free time, Professor Hockensmith enjoys cooking, entertaining and international travel. She resides in Bourbonnais, Ill.
