Craighton Hippenhammer is a full-time professor and librarian of Benner Library & Resource Center at Olivet Nazarene University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University at Los Angeles in music performance, an American Library Association accredited Master of Library Science degree from the University of Oregon with specializations in public library services, library services to children, and reference services, and a Master of Fine Arts in fiction writing with a specialization in creative nonfiction.

Professor Hippenhammer has been a faculty member at the University since 1991, managing various departments of the library including reference, government documents, interlibrary loan, circulation and library technology. He created the Department of Library Information Technology which applies new technologies to library processes, including: online library research databases, off-campus proxy access to those databases, integrated library software migrations and updates, interlibrary loan and cataloging software processes, technical pilot projects, project management, and various communication and statistical software uses.

He has taught library research techniques and technologies in both the traditional undergraduate program and in the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies Master of Arts in Education, Library Information Specialist program, where he teaches the advanced technology course, Information Technology/Media Services and Production II.

Before coming to Olivet, Professor Hippenhammer worked as a journalist at a local newspaper, and prior to that worked as a children’s librarian in public libraries in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and Decatur, Illinois.

He has also served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Recently, Craighton and his wife Linda have been serving in medical mission work in several countries overseas.

Professor Hippenhammer has been an active writer over his career and has written over 160 articles, books and book reviews, subjects including technology, library science, local history, general interest items, children’s literature, fantasy and science fiction.

Professor Hippenhammer is a member of the American Library Association and the Association of College and Research Libraries, and has been active at various times in the Library Information Technology Association, the Association of Library Services for Children, the Illinois Library Association, and the Association of Christian Librarians.
