Dr. Kelly S. Brown, a member of the education department at Olivet Nazarene University, teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses. Dr. Brown is also involved with the Illinois State Board of Education where she works with the assessment divisions of the science and mathematics departments.
Duties with ISBE include: writing, editing select items, setting standards and creating rubrics for the Illinois State Assessment Test.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree in education from Olivet Nazarene University in 1992, Dr. Brown gained her educational experience in the Homewood, Ill. school system.
She began by teaching in a self-contained fourth grade classroom and later taught several levels of eighth grade mathematics. Dr. Brown earned a Master of Arts in education at Governors State University in 1996. After more than a decade in the public school system, Dr. Brown conducted a study exploring the socioeconomic academic achievement gap of low-income junior high students. Dr. Brown earned a Doctor of Education at Argosy University in 2006.
