Dr. Gerald Anderson has been a member of the music faculty at Olivet since 1978. His major teaching area is in piano, working with private students and in class piano courses. Dr. Anderson also teaches courses in theory and music history. Throughout his tenure at Olivet, Anderson has been recognized for his work in teaching, having been selected as Faculty Member of the Year in 1989 and given the Richard M. Jones Award for Teaching Excellence in 2005.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Anderson performs extensively as a soloist, chamber musician, church musician, adjudicator and clinician. In 2002, Dr. Anderson recorded his first solo CD, a collection of sacred piano music, entitled “Classic Hymns.”

Dr. Anderson has served as a featured soloist for the interdenominational ministry of the Chicago Sunday Evening Club and its television program “Thirty Good Minutes,” aired on Chicago’s public television station. Included in these performances have been arrangements by Dr. Anderson, commissioned by the Chicago Sunday Evening Club, and performed exclusively for this program.

Dr. Anderson has collaborated with numerous artists such as Jonathan Welch, Shirley Close, Robert Hale and Dean Wilder. He currently performs in a four piano, four pianist Festival of Keyboards with Ovid Young, Stephen Nielson and Jeff Bennett.
