Dr. Atkinson arrived at Olivet in 1970 and served as chairman of the Department of Mathematics from 1981 to 2007. His areas of interest include calculus, statistics and mathematics education. He has written for several publications and has also spoken at regional and national mathematics conferences. Dave was recently listed in "Who's Who among American Teachers."
Since 1997 Dave and his wife Ann have traveled to Eastern Europe, the Alps, Russia and Scandinavia, Israel, Egypt, Costa Rica, Thailand, China, Tibet, Peru, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Their most recent travels took them on a safari in southern Africa including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia.
They have two children, Cindy and Brad, and two grandchildren. Cindy lives in Bourbonnais, Ill. with husband Tony and daughter Ashlyn. Brad works for an insurance company near Lansing, Mich. He has one daughter, Alayna.
