Dr. Bower joined the faculty at Olivet in the fall of 1987. He teaches courses in several of the experimental areas of psychology (research methods and statistics, learning, cognition, physiological psychology) as well as a course covering the history and systems of psychology. In addition, he directs the independent research projects conducted by undergraduate students in the Department of Behavioral Sciences. His areas of special interest are human learning, memory and cognition.
Dr. Bower received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in experimental psychology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. While an undergraduate at Miami, Dr. Bower was elected to two national honor societies: Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa. He is a charter member of the American Psychological Society. He is also a member of the Midwestern Psychological Association and the Association of Nazarene Sociologists and Researchers. In 2004, Dr. Bower received the Richard M. Jones Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence.
Dr. Bower’s hobbies include hunting, fishing and hiking, as well as watching his favorite sports teams in action.
