Dr. Dwight Ginn joined the faculty in 1992 after working as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Medical College of Toledo, studying some of the genes producing high blood pressure.
He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Taylor University. He earned his doctoral degree in microbiology from Ohio State University where he studied the molecular biology of rotavirus, a virus that causes severe gastrointestinal infections in children.
His current research interests include the cellular mechanisms by which cadmium interferes with the production of collagen in tissue cultured bone cells. He is also interested in adapting current laboratory research techniques to the teaching laboratory.
At Olivet, Dr. Ginn teaches Biology I, Genetics, Advanced Genetics and Developmental Biology. In his Advanced Genetics class, students learn current molecular genetic techniques. In his Developmental Biology course, students learn the scientific method by performing independent research projects. He has also worked with many students in projects in his laboratory research. Dr. Ginn has participated in the summer undergraduate research program at Olivet.
Denise, his wife, is a medical technologist at St. Mary's Hospital Laboratory. They have two sons, David and Brian, and attend College Church of the Nazarene.
